If there’s one experience people picture when they think of Niagara Falls, this is it: getting out on the water and heading straight toward the Falls themselves.
Today, this tour is operated by Niagara City Cruises (formerly known as Hornblower), and it’s the official boat tour on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.
That’s one of the most common questions, and the short answer is yes… and no.
For many years, the Maid of the Mist operated from both the American and Canadian sides. But in 2012, after a competitive bidding process, the Niagara Parks Commission awarded a 30-year contract to Hornblower to operate the boat tours from the Canadian side.
The Maid of the Mist still operates from the U.S. side, but if you’re taking the boat ride from Canada, this is the experience.
And in terms of what you’ll actually do and see, it’s the same iconic journey into the mist at the base of the Falls.

While the name may be different, the boats themselves are designed to make the experience even better.
The catamarans used here were built locally in Ontario and are designed for stability, space, and visibility. They feature tiered decks that give you clear views from almost every angle, along with indoor seating areas where you can step inside and stay dry if you want a break from the mist.
Because of their design, these boats are also able to operate longer into the season than the older-style vessels, which means more visitors get the chance to experience the Falls from the water.
It’s the same unforgettable ride, just with a few modern upgrades that make it more comfortable and accessible.
There are a lot of ways to see Niagara Falls, but not all of them put you right in the middle of it.
We offer this as an option because it’s one of the most immersive experiences available. It’s not just about seeing the Falls. It’s about hearing them up close, feeling the mist, and understanding just how powerful the water really is.
At the same time, we know not everyone wants to get that close or get wet, so we leave it as a choice. That way, you can decide what kind of Niagara experience you want to have.
For those who do add it, it often ends up being one of the most memorable parts of the day.
The boat tour with Niagara City Cruises is available as an optional upgrade to your $77 + tax Chariots of Fire Niagara Falls day tour.
If you choose to add it, we’ll make sure you have time to enjoy the full experience as part of your day.
If it’s your first time in Niagara, this is the one experience most people don’t want to miss, and the one they remember long after the day is over.
