There’s a reason Niagara Falls has been called the Honeymoon Capital of the World for over 200 years.
For generations, people haven’t just come here to see the Falls — they’ve come here to celebrate some of life’s biggest moments.

Waterfalls have long been seen as romantic places.
The sound of the water, the mist in the air, the rainbows forming in the sunlight; it all creates an atmosphere that feels almost designed for special moments.
One of the first recorded honeymooners here was Theodosia Burr, daughter of U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr.
She visited Niagara Falls with her husband, Joseph Alston, in the early 1800s.
Their trip helped spark a trend.
Just a few years later, Jérôme Bonaparte, the younger brother of Napoleon, brought his bride, Elizabeth Patterson, here as well.
At the time, Niagara wasn’t easy to reach.
The journey required horses, servants, and time, so only the wealthy could afford the trip.
That all changed in 1825 with the opening of the Erie Canal.
For the first time, middle-class travelers from the eastern United States could make their way to Niagara Falls more easily.
Then came the railways.
By 1836, trains were bringing visitors from all backgrounds, turning Niagara into one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world.
By the 1920s, Niagara Falls had gained another nickname: the “Baby City.”
There was a widespread belief that more babies were conceived here than anywhere else.
Whether that was ever true or not… it certainly added to the Falls’ romantic reputation.
In 1952, the movie Niagara, starring Marilyn Monroe, brought even more attention to the area.
Set against the backdrop of Niagara Falls, the film featured Monroe on her honeymoon, and helped introduce a whole new generation to the idea of Niagara as a romantic getaway.
Today, couples still come from around the world to celebrate honeymoons, anniversaries, and special moments here.
The setting hasn’t changed much. The Falls are still just as powerful, just as beautiful, and just as memorable.
Some of Niagara’s most enduring traditions started with just a few visitors and a powerful first impression. Over time, those moments became part of the story.
