Hockey Hall of Fame: Home of the Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup in the Hockey hall of Fame

As we make our way through downtown Toronto, we pass the Hockey Hall of Fame, a must-see destination for hockey fans and one of the city’s most recognizable attractions.

Although it’s now located in Toronto, the Hall of Fame was originally planned for Kingston, Ontario, often considered the birthplace of hockey. After years of delays, the NHL shifted its support to Toronto, where a permanent home was eventually established.

Before moving to its current downtown location, the Hockey Hall of Fame was housed at the Exhibition Place, the site of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). As the collection grew, a larger and more prominent space was needed.

Today, the Hall of Fame is located inside a historic former bank building at Yonge and Front Streets. Built in the late 1800s, the building is one of the few structures to survive Toronto’s Great Fire of 1904, adding another layer of history to the experience.

Inside, visitors will find interactive exhibits, historic memorabilia, and tributes to the game’s greatest players, along with one of the biggest highlights: the Stanley Cup itself.

Since moving to this downtown location in 1993, the Hockey Hall of Fame has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and remains a major draw for visitors from around the world.
