Events That Bring Niagara Falls to Life in Spring

Spring in Niagara Falls is an interesting time of year. The gardens are beginning to bloom, the crowds of summer haven’t quite arrived yet, and the city slowly starts waking up after winter.

It’s also when a few of Niagara’s more unique events begin to appear on the calendar. Some bring pop culture fans, others draw music lovers, and a few celebrate the region that surrounds the Falls.

If you happen to be visiting during the spring months, here are a few events that can add something unexpected to your trip.

Niagara Falls Comic Con

One of the biggest late-spring events in Niagara Falls is Niagara Falls Comic Con.

Held at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre, this event draws fans of comics, movies, television, and gaming from across the region. Celebrity guests, artist vendors, costume contests, and memorabilia displays fill the convention halls for the weekend.

The event typically takes place the first weekend in June, just as the city is moving into its busy summer season.

Even if you’re only mildly interested in pop culture, it can be a surprisingly fun atmosphere to wander through. Visitors dressed as superheroes and movie characters often spill out into the nearby streets, creating a colourful contrast to the usual tourist crowds around the Falls.

The Niagara Falls Elvis Festival

Every spring, Niagara Falls welcomes fans of the King for the annual Niagara Falls Elvis Festival. The event usually takes place in mid- April and brings together talented Elvis tribute artists from across North America for several days of performances, competitions, and themed shows.

Many of the main performances are held at the Greg Frewin Theatre, a well-known entertainment venue in the heart of the city. The festival has become a favourite for Elvis fans and music lovers alike, with energetic performances that celebrate the music and stage style of Elvis Presley.

Even if you’re not a dedicated Elvis fan, the festival can be a surprisingly fun event to stumble across while visiting Niagara Falls in the spring.

Niagara Falls Fireworks Series

Another event visitors often enjoy in the warmer months is the regular fireworks display over Niagara Falls. Beginning May 15 and running through October 12, 2026, fireworks are launched nightly at 10:00 PM from the gorge between the Falls. The displays are relatively short, usually about five minutes, but seeing them burst above the mist of the Falls can be a memorable way to end the evening.

Some nights feature slightly larger shows, particularly on holidays such as Canada Day, July 4th, and New Year’s Eve. While fireworks are a regular part of Niagara’s summer evenings, large-scale drone light shows are much less common. A few experimental 300-drone displays were tested in 2023, but these have remained occasional special events rather than a nightly feature.

Many visitors choose to watch the fireworks from Queen Victoria Park, near the brink of Horseshoe Falls, or from the top of Clifton Hill where the skyline opens up above the Falls.

Even on nights without fireworks, the Falls themselves are illuminated after dark year-round, with colourful lighting that highlights the water as it pours over the cliffs.

A Different Pace Before Summer

Spring in Niagara Falls has a slightly different rhythm than the busy summer months. The gardens are beginning to bloom, the Falls are powerful from the seasonal thaw, and the city slowly starts filling with visitors again. Events like Niagara Falls Comic Con, the Niagara Falls Elvis Festival, and the evening fireworks over Niagara Falls are just a few of the things that can make a spring visit feel a little more memorable.
